Experiment idea for you all

If a “sunset” is just the sun getting further away, why doesn’t someone measure the relative size of the sun at midday and compare it to the relative size at sunset? That way you could see if it’s the same size (proving it remains equidistant from the earth and the earth is a spinning ball) or if it gets smaller at sunset (proving it is a moving light source illuminating a flat earth).
